PHPUnit Installation is Easy

I installed PHPUnit on my old PC running Windows XP SP3 last month and got several screenshots at http://www.flickr.com/photos/boxoft/sets/72157622733533293/.

I installed PHPUnit on my VPS running Ubuntu 9.10 the day before yesterday and it turned out enough to follow the official installation guide.

I installed PHPUnit on my new PC running Windows XP SP3 just now and a little new problems because I had xdebug enabled. No screenshots but full records this time.

It’s upgrade the old xdebug v.2.0.3 to the latest xdebug v.2.0.5.

After opening http://xdebug.org/download.php, I downloaded 5.2 VC6 (32 bit) because my XAMPP is 1.6.8, in which the PHP is v.5.2.6.

After renaming php_xdebug-2.0.5-5.2.dll to php_xdebug.dll, I substitute the old php_xdebug.dll with it.

Let’s continue after upgrading the xdebug DLL file.

It seemed OK. But I wanted confirmation.

I set a new menu item for PHPUnit in my UltraEdit.

Then I created the t1.php file with the content from here.

Tested t1.php with PHPUnit. Bingo!

This post is an upgrade version of my comment left on the “Old school task management” post.

1. As a coder, freelancer, and future entrepreneur, I group all my tasks into different projects. Acunote is a good way to estimate and track these projects. It’s easy to see whether and how long a project will be delayed from the burn-down chart.

2. Unfuddle is a must for coders who love version controls, bug tracking, issue tracking, message boards, and milestones.

3. I love Gmail. Who don’t ? My Gmail inbox contains all my emails related to the unfinished projects. I’ll archive the emails when finishing the relevant project. And it’s easy to have a quick look at unimportant emails and archive them.

4. I manage my daily tasks with Google tasks, which can be accessed from Gmail or Google Calendar.

5. I like tracking time with RescueTime. It tracks time and assess my efficiency automatically. I’ll use it to track my employees’ efficiency when building companies in the future.

The above tools are almost webware. No wonder Google Chrome OS will succeed.

How to Screw SlimTimer Up in 10 Seconds

SlimTimer is a webware (web application) for time tracking. Somebody like Jason Fitzpatrick, likes it very much. I just found some flaws in SlimTimer. Let me show you how to screw it Up in 10 seconds.

1. Start a task, any task with SlimTimer.

2. Adjust your clock forward 10 minutes.

And the clock in SlimTimer will move forward 10 minutes as well. This is a useful feature if a freelancer bills his/her clients with SlimTimer.

3. Now adjust the clock backwards.

WOW. You’ve worked on the task for more than 2,000 hours in just 10 seconds.
